M U N Z E I L

With Bernadette Zeilinger on pinkullo, voice, contrabass recorder and other flutes and Diego Mune on mandolin, mandriola, electronic, acoustic and electric guitars, this experienced duo has taken their uniquely specific and flexible musical language around the world. These two musicians with such differing backgrounds present a fabulous programme, combining two different kinds of virtuosity.

Their expressive and touching style has captivated audiences and garnered critical acclaim in Europe, Great Britain, the USA, Mexico, Canada, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
The phenomenal pair inspire their audiences with their passion and warmth while performing to a high level of perfection.

With an amazing independence of different voices, Bernadette Zeilinger creates clouds of sounds in movement, that provoke real challenges to identify where they are coming from, at which point they start and what space they fill. With advanced modern techniques, she builds a counterpoint, which hovers between contemporary and Celtic. You can hear her soft melodies lightly flying in the air.

Diego Mune plays with fire and energy. His rapidly moving hands craft many notes in very short time and shape strong rhythms of musical complexity. He forms a variety of sounds, and accomplishes tones imitating other instruments. Warm and heavy, his playing awakens hidden feelings, grounding the listeners; letting them feel their roots. The deepness of his powerful performance is both marvellous and mystical.

Together, Bernadette Zeilinger and Diego Mune in cooperation with Forum Zeitgeschichte and the University of Vienna curate "La Musa _ concert on campus", an international transdisciplinary project for new contemporary and present music, art and culture.

They also created original music for the film "Ainhoa, yo no soy esa", which was presented and received awards at several festivals: Malaga Film Festival (two awards on its premiere: the Public Prize and the "Biznaga de Plata", the first prize to the best documentary), DocumentaMadrid 2018 (two awards: Special Mention of the National Film Jury and the Film Institute Award for the Best Sound), D'A Film Festival Barcelona ...

MUNZEIL - University Vienna 2019 - full concert

An astute and technically brilliant composer and performer, Bernadette Zeilinger, holds degrees in Education (University of Vienna), Music/ Recorder (University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna) and in Specialized Music Performance (University of Applied Sciences and Arts North-western Switzerland/ Music in Basel), where she studied with Alfred Zimmerlin and Fred Frith. In 2009 and in 2010 she was nominated for an Erasmus residency at Zurich University of the Arts where she specialised in the notation of contemporary playing techniques. In 2009 she won an award from the Austrian International Society of Contemporary Music (ISCM), in recognition of her radio feature about contemporary music, and in 2019 the award of the city of Vienna "Förderungspreis der Stadt Wien in der Sparte Musik (Komposition)". She has also been awarded several grants.

Composer and guitar virtuoso Diego Mune grew up playing contemporary new music, dodecaphonism, classical music, Argentinian folklore, blues, rock, jazz and other styles. He started to explore special resonances on the guitar, when he was very young, developing his own very characteristic way of playing. He has worked as a studio musician for many years, performed on hundreds of album productions, and taken part in different kinds of multi-disciplinary projects. He was the musical director of the film "El Gran Vuelo", which won prizes of SomCinema, Malaga Film Festival, Alcances, CIMA, AICE, Feroz Puerta Oscura, Sole Luna and others. Diego Mune is also working on scientific research projects. He collaborated with one of the biggest research centers: the CNR Pisa in Italy, where a team of doctors studied his solo concerts.
